Respiratory Therapy

Rooks County Health Center recently added a registered respiratory therapist to its staff of medical professionals.  A native of Norton, Jamie Meitl previously worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb. gaining experience in all areas of a hospital.

Respiratory therapists evaluate and treat all types of patients from heart attack and stroke victims to infants with underdeveloped lungs and the elderly suffering from emphysema.  As RCH’s sole respiratory therapist, Meitl will work closely with both patients and physicians.  After completing a patient’s clinical assessment, she consults with the physicians and health care team create or modify the patient’s care plan.

Since this position is new to RCH, Meitl plans to develop the department’s services in the future. “I’d like to look into the possibility of adding pulmonary rehab, inpatient/outpatient diagnostic services and educational opportunities for those suffering from asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and smoking cessation education for those who’d like to quit smoking,” said Meitl.

If you would like to learn more about the services offered by RCH’s respiratory therapist, please call (785) 434-4553.
