Rooks County Heart and Sole Walking Program Results
The Rooks County Heart and Sole Walking Program, sponsored by Rooks County Healthcare Foundation, Rooks County Health Center, Rooks County Health Department and the Recreation Commissions from Damar, Palco, Plainville, Stockton and Zurich has wrapped up its walking challenge, with the “Central Vet Services” team from Stockton walking away as the “Grand Champion.”
The “Central Vet Service” team concluded the 12-week program with the team of 10 walkers taking over 13 million total steps. Member of Central Vet Service team are: Lorraine Baughman, Dena Beck, Ashley Bedient, Jessica Iwanski, Cindy Kriley, Natalie Knipp, Shannon Mongeau, Liz Nicholas, Gayla Peterson and Deb Hahn, who was the top walker with 1,831,195 steps.
Overall, 27 participating teams tallied 208,095,753 steps or 104,048 miles – the equivalent of 4 ½ times around the Earth. An average of 270 people from all the teams participated in the 12-week program, developed to get people up and active this summer.
In addition to better understanding the benefit of walking or increasing the activity in their lives, some members of teams also reported weight loss, reduced use of medication, gym memberships, healthier habits, positive lifestyle changes, and generally feeling better.
The program celebrated this past Friday with a “Healthy Picnic” and awards ceremony. The second place team was First National Bank with members: Lori Eichman, Angie Habiger, Dar Hickert, Janet Pfeifer, Gina and Troy Rudman, Linda Rudman, Bryne Thompson, Karen VanHoose, and Jennifer VonFeldt. The third place prize went to the Miles Worthwhile team with members: Todd and Donna Addelman, Phil and Francie Benedick, Kim and Jeremiah Brown, Mike and Denise Kemp, Nicole Pierson, and Kelsey Wyatt.
