Valentine’s Day is traditionally a huge day for florists. This year, Gifts & More and Regeena’s Flowers & Events of Plainville and The Dandelion Patch of Stockton used their busiest day to sponsor a fund-raiser benefiting Rooks County Health Center.
A determined group of volunteers for RCH delivered over 250 valentine deliveries in Rooks and Osborne Counties. In return, the florists donated the $5 delivery charge for each delivery on Valentine’s Day to RCH.
The volunteer helpers were as follows: Charlie and Cathy Allphin and their grandchildren Mariah Grunert and Kade Grunert from Topeka, Vicky Berkley, Morgan Fellhoelter, Char Heenan, Genette and Buck Keas, Mike and Denise Kemp, Kathy Lynch, Pat Meyers, Janice Miller, Kandie Morain, Ron and Cindi Overlease, Jenny Plante, Kathy Ramsay, Jeff VanDyke and John Voss. Bonnie and Jennifer Staab also volunteered their time to organize and direct deliveries from Staabco’s storefront in Plainville.
These amazing volunteers, including several members of RCH’s Board of Directors, braved the bitter cold and whipping winds to help make others day special. “When people do things for others, they are blessed beyond measure in return. This is something several volunteers found out on Valentine’s Day 2008. The access to quality health care in any community is a true benefit in itself. We are so grateful for these businesses for coming up with this incredible idea and sharing the profits with the hospital,” stated Kathy Ramsay, Communication and Development Director at RCH.
Carol VanDyke of Gifts & More and The Dandelion Patch and Wanda Kortan of Regeena’s Flowers & Eventes presented a check totaling $1,365 to Ramsay during the monthly RCH Board of Directors meeting. The funds will be used towards the “Era of Caring” capital campaign to help purchase needed medical equipment for the new hospital.
