February is American Heart Association month. We at Rooks County Health Center’s Cardiac Rehab are proud of our program. We strive to educate, instruct, and care for our patients on an individual basis.
Phase II is for patients who have recently had a cardiac event such as MI, stent placement or angioplasty. Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield and other insurance plans will pay for this rehab but requires a doctor’s order either from your primary care provider or your cardiologist. Phase II patients are always on telemetry monitoring and we check blood pressures routinely. We do diet, exercise, stress and lifestyle teaching.
Phase III. Rehab is for those who have graduated Phase II or anyone who wants to exercise or improve their health. You don’t have to have a heart condition to do Phase III. Insurance doesn’t cover Phase III. There is a minimal charge for sessions which are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with your vital signs being monitored at first just like Phase II. We educate on diet, exercise, stress and emergency management to increase your well being and physical functioning. We try to keep sessions interesting and we enjoy our patients immensely. Most often we hear people say they “just feel more like themselves after completing Phase II and continue in Phase III to continue to “feel good.” This month is also “Go For the Red” to make people aware that heart disease is the #1 killer of women. For years heart disease was believed to be a man’s disease – not so. Women usually present with different symptoms than men such as: weakness, shoulder or back pain, or “just not feeling well.”
Here at RCHC Cardiac Rehab we hope to change these statistics with our rehab program. So if you want to “get in shape” or just feel better, and have a good time doing it; give us a try. “Take your health to heart!”
