Working Together — Our Maintenance and Housekeeping Departments

Today Rooks County Health Center services over 6000 men, women and children from this and the surrounding area.  We have 4 physicians, 3 midlevel practitioners, and 74 full time employees at the hospital.  Each department in the hospital has an expertise all its own. It is in working together that makes this facility the best place to receive health services.  Understanding each department and how each department touches the other to make the hospital run at its best is of great value.  Over the next few weeks we will share the tasks of each department at Rooks County Health Center.  You will see how it would be impossible to do without any of them.

The Maintenance Department consists of 2 full time staff members, Bob Rudman is the Department Head and Glenn Cain is his staff.  These individuals are responsible for the general maintenance of the facility and grounds of the hospital and Main Street Terrace Apartments.  They ensure all buildings, services and equipment are maintained in accordance with all codes. They provide countless hours of maintenance that is compounded due to the age of the hospital facility.  They do their job with an attitude of working together for the common good.  From repairing the toilets to mowing the yards, renovating offices, dealing with air conditioning and plumbing problems, security and alarm systems, organizing and educating staff with disaster drills and testing staff’s knowledge of fire safety, these men do so with expertise and teamwork.

Bob loves to make staff think that he is strict and tough, but under that facade is a man who cares deeply for his co-workers and the patients and families in our hospital.  Glenn has fun sharing a smile or a kind word with a team member, a patient or their family.  There is not a time that requests for assistance are put off.  These men go above and beyond the call to provide the greatest support staff for this hospital.

The need to maintain bacteriological, as well as visual cleanliness in hospitals is exceptionally high and has become even more critical.  This increased awareness of the need to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for our hospital patients, staff and visitors is carried out by 4 full time staff members.  Marlene Dohe is the manager of the housekeeping department.  She is responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the department.  She does so with care and concern for all who work with her.  Mary Plante, Jamie Lawrence and Rhonda Strano carry out all housekeeping duties which include laundry for the hospital and clinic, cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, ER, offices, surgical suites and the clinic offices when clinic housekeeping staff is on vacation.  These women provide service with a smile and help others with their warm positive attitudes.  They are constantly willing to go that extra mile.

There is an enormous amount of common courtesy that goes on at Rooks County Health Center daily.  That is what being a rural hospital is all about, our family taking care of your family.
