Sacred Heart School Donates to "Era of Caring" Campaign
Giving is an action of the heart and students at Sacred Heart Grade School (SHGS) in Plainville showed this to Rooks County Health Center, the community and Rooks County. SHGS students started a project over a month ago to raise funds for the new hospital. By bringing their extra change to school, the students collectively raised $200.00.
Rooks County Health Center’s Communication and Development Director Kathy Ramsay was brought to tears with the presentation of the donation. “It is an incredible example of learning early the importance of being involved and taking pride in community. This inspiring gesture came from our greatest asset, our children”, stated Ramsay.
During last week’s celebration of “Catholic Schools Week”, the children had many activities to observe the importance of their faith based education. Ramsay, a 1969 graduate of Sacred Heart School was invited last Thursday to share what it meant to her attending Catholic school. After completing her presentation, Michelle Klein and Brooklyn Augustine presented Ramsay with two “very heavy containers” full of change the students saved to help build the new hospital.
“It was a miracle moment. It can remind us of the gospel story, “The Widow’s Gift”, the story of a poor widow who offers a day’s worth of meals to charity. The moral here is that it is not the value of the gift, but the manner and spirit in which one gives that is important,” explained Ramsay.
For a school that often does service projects, this one was especially pleasing, because it benefits the entire county. “We are happy to make a contribution to the hospital fund drive to help the county. It seems a very appropriate time during ‘Catholic Schools Week’, when we celebrated ‘Community Day’ to do this. We hope it helps,” said Carol Parker, Principal of SHGS.
