Rooks County Health Center Construction Update—May 2007

Scheduled for completion in the summer of 2008, the new hospital is progressing despite bouts of wet weather. Cooper Medical Buildings met with hospital officials and key subcontractors recently to review the updated schedule for areas A, B and C of the new hospital.

In Area A—the medical clinic, administration offices, hospital lobby, chapel and the physical therapy department—the concrete footings are complete. The underground plumbing in this area is nearing completion and the underground electrical is in progress.

Work on the concrete footings in Area B—the cardiac rehab department, laboratory, radiology and surgery areas—are well underway. Area B's structural steel shop drawings should be approved soon. And, in Area C—the emergency room, labor and delivery, patient wing, dietary and materials management areas—the structural steel shop drawings are almost complete.

While the opening of the new hospital is approximately 13 months away, area contractors are already benefiting from the project. To date, 68% of the construction contracts are to local contractors. "We knew the challenges we faced with a project of this magnitude," said Bill Stahl, COO. "We are confident the construction includes the best subcontractors this region has to offer."
