Imogene Gick-Fleming Giving

In healthcare systems across the nation campaigns to raise money for the institution are not uncommon.  The Rooks County Health Center (RCH), like many other healthcare systems has its own capital campaign called the “Era of Caring”.  Receiving financial gifts through campaigns like this play an extremely important role in maintaining a strong healthcare system.

The RCH recently received a generous contribution to the Era of Caring by former Plainville resident, Imogene Gick-Fleming.  “When I received the call from Imogene about participating in the “Era of Caring” Capital Campaign, I was elated,” said Kathy Ramsay, RN, RCH Communication and Development Director. “To think someone who has not lived in the community in over 55 years would consider remembering her family through a memorial donation is truly amazing and commendable,”

Through Gick-Fleming’s gift, her parents, William “Willie” and Gladys Gick will be remembered for generations.  An area in the new hospital will be named in their honor.

Born and raised in Plainville, Gick-Fleming grew up in the first brick home built in Plainville.  She continues to consider this area in western Kansas her home.  She believes in the commitment to good health and helping others.  “It was an honor to grow up in Plainville, because of the wonderful people and values I learned growing up there,” said Gick-Fleming.

In 1945, she married Richard Fleming of Stockton who was a physician for many years in Wichita.  The Flemings have two sons, Gick and Brent.

A graduate of Fort Hays State University, Fleming was always interested in a career on the stage and participated in all school plays.  Continuing her passion for entertainment Gick-Fleming remains active in the Funtastics, a musical group of talented individuals that perform at various functions throughout the Wichita area.

The reigning Ms. Kansas Senior America since 1991, Gick-Fleming is active in over 50 organizations, at least 20 of which she has served as president. During her years in Derby, Kan., she has also served on several boards.
