Keira Ivory Lee — First Baby of the New Year

Keira Ivory Lee got her first peek at the world Jan. 12 at 4 a.m.  Delivered by Dr. Jen Brull, Keira was the first baby born at Rooks County Health Center in 2007.  The daughter of Kellie Mitchell and Brian Lee, of Hays, she weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Traditionally, community organizations bestow baby gifts on the family whose child is the first-born of the New Year.  This year is different.  The RCH Auxiliary along with various Rooks County sponsors and businesses is presenting a $500 savings bond to the First Baby of the Year.

A letter for Keira to read when she is older is included with the bond.  The letter explains how pleased RCH is that Keira’s parents chose RCH as the place to share the miracle of her birth.  It also asks her to consider using the money to further her education and emphasizes the benefits of an education and career in the medical field.

Keira’s parents beaming with pride took time to thank Dr. Brull and the hospital staff for a moment they will always cherish.  “Our experience was absolutely wonderful.  The one on one care, genuine concern and interest by all the staff was just amazing,” stated Keira’s mom Kellie.

The RCH auxiliary and county businesses plan to give a special $1,000 savings bond to the first baby born at the new hospital.    “If we play our cards right, maybe we could have the first baby born in the new hospital,” laughed Kellie.
