Fellhoelters Donate to "Era of Caring" Campaign

It has been said that charity should start with those closest to us – family, colleagues, and friends.  Herman and Irene Fellhoelter literally took this message to heart, giving to the “Era of Caring” Capital Campaign.  Their donation as a “Naming Opportunity” for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department of the new Rooks County Health Center building fund was given to help ensure that Cardiac Rehabilitation continues to be an option for patients.

The Plainville couple, who are also my wonderful parents, love to help others.  They taught my 5 siblings and myself that by giving of yourself you receive.  They have been blessed and they want to pass some of those blessings on.

Herman has been involved in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Rooks County Health Center for the past 7 years.  “He is a true advocate for the program.  He often encourages others completing Phase II to continue on a maintenance program themselves, just like he has done,” said Helen McGann, RN Cardiac Rehabilitation Director.

Cardiac Rehabilitation makes a difference – a big difference in the quality of life that patients recovering from heart attack, heart surgery, angioplasty and/or angina are able to achieve. It takes more than surgery to achieve real heart health; it involves a change of heart about lifestyle choices. This program emphasizes exercise, education, counseling and behavioral modifications as patients are given the tools they need to make heart health a lifelong goal.

You can find out if Cardiac Rehabilitation is right for you by talking with your doctor. Many insurance carriers cover rehabilitation programs; please check with your insurance company to determine your specific coverage. Graduates of Cardiac Rehab tell us that one of the greatest benefits can be that you "feel like yourself again!"

“We have the satisfaction of knowing that we did something that will help others in the future.  What would we do without our healthcare facility?” asked the Fellhoelter’s.  “We are just so happy to do it.  This is a very important time for this County.”

For individuals who have completed the Cardiac Rehabilitation program, Rooks County Health Center also offers a maintenance program that patients may join in order to continue their "heart health" program.  If you have any questions, please contact Helen McGann or Kathy Ramsay at 785-434-4553.
