Turkey Trot Raises over $2,200 for the New Hospital
Over 100 people gathered Thanksgiving morning at the Plainville City Park to participate in Rooks County’s first Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot was a 3.6 mile walk/run benefiting the Rooks County Health Center. It also gave participants an extra reason to have another helping of mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie at dinner.
Kelli Hansen and Cortney Finnesy organized the Turkey Trot with the help of others who volunteered time and energy to help manage the race. Raising over $2,200 for the new hospital, Hansen and Finnesy plan on making the Turkey Trot an annual Thanksgiving Day event. According to Finnesy, “The hope is everyone will return next year and tell others about it because the race supports the local hospital and justifies eating a lot later on in the day.”
“The weather was gorgeous, the mood was exciting and there was a real family atmosphere, where people could walk, run or watch and visit with each other,” said Hansen. Participants received a Turkey Trot t-shirt sponsored by the Dessin Fournir Companies and Mr. K’s provided water and fruit.
“Even though I came in dead last with my mom and dear friend Cassie Nuckols, I’d like to thank Kelli and Cortney, the Dessin Fournir Companies and Mr. K’s for their sponsorship and Dales Sims, Candice Rachel, Steve Sparks, Steve and Alisa Dreher, Troy Rudman, Steve Finnesy, Shane Mai and Charlie Hansen who all helped to make this such a huge success,” said Kathy Ramsay of RCHC.
